Green for the Soul

Green is where the veil thins. It's where we are gifted with a glimpse of what heaven will look like when we arrive. It's where fields of soft velvet work into those soft places between our toes as we run, barefooted and childlike, giggly, yet overcome, into the arms of the Father who loves us. Green is welcoming and luxurious and fertile and satisfying.
Green is the promise of things to come.
Green fills the soul.
It's the place where the Shepherd is.
No wonder pastures of green comfort us, give us peace, make us want to lie down.
I tell my kids that when I get to heaven though, I am pretty sure Jesus will also have plenty of moist chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting for me.

I can only imagine...
Hey, I know I'm loved! And in heaven, I won't worry about the calories found in buttercream frosting.
Anyway, I'm in love with the color green. It fills every part of me this time of year. It makes me feel rewarded for my patience through a long winter. It's symbolic of every other time I've trekked through a wilderness, bitter and frigid, or hot and arid.
Green is hope realized. It's what's found at the end of a rainbow.
So now that the season of green is here, I'm going to dance in it. I'm going to throw my hands up in the air and thank God for the goodness of green while it lasts. Then, when it's gone, I'm going to remember it.
Until the day that I can run, sing, and lie down in those everlasting pastures and eat chocolate cake without a care. When arriving in my Promised Land means all my wilderness journeys are behind me.
